Clark County Annual Meeting

The Annual Meeting for Clark County was held Wednesday, Oct. 19. The tables were filled with people eating and visiting. Dinner was provided by our favorite cook Rick Eide. He made a selection of chicken, stuffing, dutch oven potatoes, and green beans. I think everyone would agree it was delicious, thanks Rick!

Once everyone had their fill of food, Glen Hardy started the meeting off by thanking everyone for being their and introduced the Country Insurance team. Which included Chris Kemmer, Jeff McMean, and Quincy Walker. Chris Kemmer was given the floor to talk about Country Insurance. First off he thanked the policy owners and told them that Country Insurance was holding strong in 2011. Chris insured (no pun intended) everyone that while the financial market is weary, Country Insurance has invested conservatively to survive.

Glen also gave Doug Busselman the chance to give us a report on what was happening with the Nevada Legislature. He said that 2011 has been a successful year, and that this year they measured their success on what they could prevent from happening. For example, there was a proposal to do away with the College of Aggriculture but they were able to keep it going. With this college students can learn more about aggriculture and/or get into the bussiness of aggriculture. Doug also talked about the Triple Trailer Bill they kept from passing, which prevented hay transporters to tow three trailers at one time, which hurts the hay industry. The wild horse and water rights were contriversal also. Doug mentioned that next year could be a challenge since there will be alot of "newbies" in the legislature. There was also a tax increase in one of the new bills they weren't happy with but overall it sounded like they were successful in keeping some bills from passing. Thank you Doug for working hard to protect our rights!

Hank Combs was next to stand, he mentioned that the NV Farm Bureau made its quota for the year, at least one more member than last year! Hank had the opportunity to go to the National Meeting in Atlanta Georgia and there Nevada Farm Bureau won two awards. He then talked about the program services that would be offered in 2012. This last year they were able to provide $500 off a new dodge truck, they weren't able to keep that offer. Instead they have a deal with GMC, Chevy, and Buick to get $500 off of qualifying 2011/2012 models. This will provide good benefits to the Farm Bureau members.

Glen also turned the floor over to Irene Barlow, who told about the Boot Camp she attended in Washington D.C. She let everyone know that any woman in the Farm Bureau can apply for the Boot Camp and she highly recommended it. If anyone is interested contact Stephanie Licht for an application. Irene also told of some up coming events. Which includes the Young Farmer Rancher Food Drive, Food Checkout Week, a booth at the Clark County Fair, the Video Contest, and the 4-H Kick-Off. Irene also told of books about aggriculture the Womans Committee is gathering to donate to  schools in Clark County. Sign up sheets were placed on each table for Farm Bureau members to volunteer for any of the activities. Don't be shy to volunteer!

A good time was had by all at the CC Anual Farm Bureau Meeting. People were able to visit and reconnect with each other, also enjoy Ricks great cooking! Thank you to everyone that worked hard to put this meeting together.
