Board Meeting

Oct. 12, 2011 the officers in the Clark County Farm Bureau got together to hold a board meeting in Glen and Shirley Hardy's home. Those attending were Glen and Shirley Hardy, Rick Huskins, Bob and Hank Combs, Blake and Kessa Stratton, Irene Barlow, Jim and Derek Hardy.

Glen being the President of the FB directed the meeting and gave the floor to Jim Hardy for the financial report. He read through the budget and expenses of 2011, then proceeded to create a new budget for 2012 based on the 2011 budget. Money was added in areas that they thought would need it for the upcoming year. One of those areas is the National Conference of FB held in Hawaii, the budget would need to be added to in order to help with expenses of travel and board.

Jim also brought up an item the Farm Bureau would want to raise money and budget for. Its Maggie the Real Milking Cow. This artificial cow gives a real hands on learning experience. It has pumps inside the utters which give children the simulation of milking a cow.  This cow can be used in classrooms, at the fair, or any other presentation the FB might give. Concerns were raised about how to transport the 200 lb cow and where to store her. The board budgeted in some money for the cow and will also try and get grants and donations to purchase Maggie. There were concerns whether to budget in donations the the 4H and FFA, in the past $600 was budgeted in but they were already over their budget and money wasn't donated the last 2 years. It was decided that if the 4H and FFA had a project they could come to the Farm Bureau with a presentation and ask for the money. This would give the kids some interaction with the FB.

A motion was made by Bob Combs for the 2012 Budget and it was unanimously agreed upon. It wasn't five minuetes and the motion was ammended adding $300 to the Western Leadership Conference. Everyone also agreed with the ammendment.

Glen then turned to floor to Irene Barlow to tell about the Womens Committee Conference. This was in Baltimore Maryland and she was joined by Cindy Hardy and Stephanie Licht. There were many activities including mini classes, which were Irene's favorite. Irene was also selected to attend a Womens Committee Boot Camp in Washingtion D.C. she was one of 16 in the nation selected. This boot camp was to teach and give hands on learning about public speaking. Irene was placed infront of a microphone and a camara while being interviewed and making speaches. She also got the chance to debate, having done research to prepare. Irene expressed how she had to take a giant leap out of her comfort zone, but she was glad for the experiences she had, and what she was able to learn. Since she attended the boot camp she would like to use her new skills to help with publicity for Clark County and the State. She would like to recruit more active members to help with the Farm Bureau.

Jim was given the floor again to tell about the Boise Idaho Conference he attended. The theme of the conference was Thinking Oustide of the Box. There was a speaker that talked about what is going on nationally and locally to get people involved in aggriculture by using the social media. Jim said they went on an all day feild trip, veiwing the hydroelectric dam, a 5,000 cow dairy, a mint farm with 10,000 acres of mint plants, and a petting zoo. All in all it was said that Boise is a beautiful city, and Glen added that they also have a good football team!

Hank then told about the State Convention and that they wanted each county to bring 4 items for a silent auction. It was decided that Glen, Hank, Womens Committee, and Young Famer Rancher would each bring one item.

Other items were discussed, including brand inspections, water policies, state shooting leadership training and what would go on in the annual meeting the next week.

-Just as a reminder, the video contest for the womens committee is still going on, it is a good opportunity to be apart of aggriculture and possibly even win some money!
